Job searching in Settle can begin to wear on a person pretty quickly. Monster, Simply Hired, Craigslist and other popular job boards start showing up all the same jobs and as the unemployed know- checking job boards every ten minutes can start driving a person crazy. If you aren’t finding anything new then it is probably time to mix things up a little.
Step One: Take a Break
When job searching starts getting frustrating it is a good idea to take a break and try something else for a bit. Do you grocery shopping, clean a closet, take a walk or hit the library for a new novel. The idea is that your mind can move to a happier place so your attitude will be improved when you are ready to start looking again. Chances are your dream job won’t come and go within an hour, so get away from the computer for bit.
Step Two: Search Somewhere New
Take a drive around or ride the bus through a few corporate parks near where you live. Downtown Seattle isn’t the only place with successful businesses, you can also check out the tech corridor in Bothell, the high rises in Bellevue and much more. Depending on the kind of job you want you will find a neighborhood of companies who are looking for great employees. Write down names you see on all the buildings.
Step Three: Apply Specific
With your list of new potential employers or a list you created by searching online for Seattle businesses in your industry and start applying directly to their website. This won’t ensure you application will be read any faster than if you applied somewhere else but not all businesses post their openings on job boards, so get specific in your job search and hopefully it will lead to new things.
